Bonjou!! Hello! We are excited to share great news from our most recent trip to Haiti. We had a team of four go for a short trip at the beginning of January. They were able to accomplish much in their short time and we are excited to share the details with you all.
We had a few things on the agenda this trip, and a big one was to bring support to the local team. They work tirelessly to minister to the needs of the elderly in our care, and we wanted to show them some of our appreciation by giving them a little break. Our first night was spent in fellowship with them. We had the privilege of praying over them and encouraging them in their gifts and calling. What an honor that was. We were able to give the men a break and step into and fill their roll in delivering the bi-monthly meals. Because of the rainfall the night before our delivery trip, our leader, Jacquelin, was concerned for our safety in some areas along the mountain and we were unfortunately not able to deliver some meals. Jacquelin did assure us that the team would follow up the next day to make sure every elder received their rations for the next two weeks.
Another purpose of our trip, (as we had the opportunity to do last year) was to put on a luncheon for the elders in the community of Milot. Some walked and others we were able to pick up. We had a worship team from 9-11am and God’s presence was invited in our midst. Doug gave a short message of hope and shared the Gospel with all in attendance. Four children and eight adults raised their hands to ask Christ to be Lord and Savior of their lives. What an absolute pleasure it was for our team to be a part of that!
Altogether our luncheon fed 105 adults and 20 children. The 105 adults include the elderly that we feed and the elderly from the Milot church community. Everyone left with full stomachs and thankful hearts.
If you received our last newsletter, you may remember hearing about the solar lights we were able to send over with your generous donations. We are so happy to report back that your donations are absolutely being put to good use. The solar lights are doing exactly what we had hoped for. They are piercing through the darkness. In a once pitch-black mountainous area, we have been able to share hope through solar lights. Being that no one has electricity, these solar lights were received with great joy. They are used every day. We saw several on fenceposts being charged for the night to come.
Coming up in the next few weeks we will be collecting flipflops to send to our friends in Haiti. We hope to purchase between 75-100 flipflops total. As you can imagine walking in rocky terrain wears shoes out rather quickly, so we are hoping to bring a little relief to the souls of our dear elderly friends’ feet.
In closing we want to take time to give a huge THANK YOU to Meisner Electric, inc. They graciously donated over 400 shirts to our ministry!! We are so incredibly thankful.
